A dedication ceremony for the renaming of the ballpark as Zozobra Field at Fort Marcy Park and a golden brick-laying for the Zozobra Time Capsule Landscape Installation to be completed in 2025.
Music for the re-dedication of the ballpark will be provided by the Santa Fe Concert Band led by its Music Director of 40 years, Greg Heltman, The Band will perform Santa Fe’s Official song, the 1920s, La Villa de Santa Fe, as well as Spanish marches, John Philip Sousa favorites, the beloved Fiesta song to kick off the ceremony, and of course, The Star Spangled Banner The performance begins at 5:40 pm.
The Santa Fe Concert Band continues one of the region’s oldest traditions — free public concerts by volunteer musicians. The band was formed in 1865 by Francisco Pérez who, after serving as a Confederate Army bugler in the ill-fated invasion of New Mexico by Texas forces during the Civil War, returned to Santa Fe and formed La Banda de Santa Fe. Over the years, the band operated under various names and today is known as The Santa Fe Concert Band, after being formally re-incorporated in 1983 under the directorship of New Mexico native and Santa Fean, Greg Heltman.
We regret that the Fort Marcy Complex Parking lot will be closed to parking due to the Zozobra event set-up in Magers Field and we encourage attendees to find parking in the adjacent neighborhood.
