Zozobra can’t stand to be left out of anything that Santa Fe prides itself on and that includes the famed Santa Fe Margarita Trail! Zozobra’s cool signature margarita, the ZozoRita, was created in 2015 by the amazing talents of Southern Glazer’s Wines and Spirits, which has offered its generous support to Zozobra and the Kiwanis Club, year after year. The ZozoRita would not exist without them, and Kiwanis gives Zozobra-sized thanks to these great partners!

The 2023 ZozoRita in the cool collectible glasses will be on menus all over New Mexico, ready for you to share a toast to the 99th Burning of Zozobra on Friday, September 01, 2023! To mark the ongoing Zozobra Decades Project, this year’s collectible glass will be styled for the millennial era of the 2000s and 2010s.

Since 2015, locals and visitors alike have been enjoying this fresh twist on a Santa Fe favorite, which comes with a seal of approval from Zozobra himself!

And no worries –– the 2020 ZozoRita recipe and shake-it-up video are still below so you can try your hand with both recipes! Watch the video below to become an expert home mixologist!

Here’s the recipe for 2020’s smooth summer cocktail, created by the Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits team:

  • 1 ½  oz Espolòn 100% de Agave Blanco Tequila
  • ½ oz Grand Marnier
  • 1 ½ oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 ½ oz Simple Syrup

Add all ingredients into a mixing glass and fill with ice. Cover with Mixing tin and shake vigorously to mix. Strain into a salt-rimmed ZozoRita glass filled with ice.  Garnish with a lime wedge.

You can substitute the fresh lime juice and simple syrup with your favorite Margarita Mix. HINT: The Southern Glazer experts recommend Organic Tres Agaves Margarita Mix or Sweet’n’Sour such as Mr. and Mrs. T.

Why A ZozoRita?

While 2020 was an especially gloomy year, that was all the more reason that so many caring people ordered up this unique cocktail. The extra bonus? It offered a way to give back to kids, because thanks to the generosity of Southern Glazer’s, $1 from every glass sales always goes to help the Santa Fe Kiwanis Club fundraising activities that make life better for New Mexico kids.

Last year, for the first time, the collectible glasses were available for sale online as a two-pack – aww, one is the loneliest number – and net proceeds went even further to help Kiwanis help kids! Thank you, Southern Glazer’s! And YES, stay tuned! 2022 glasses will go on sale on Independence Day, July 4th, when Santa Fe declares its independence from gloom!

Burned 2021’s gloom with Zozobra? Felt good, right?

Start writing down whatever is bothering you now, because our Burn My Gloom campaign will be back again this summer when you can once again put it into Zozobra, to go up in smoke when Santa Fe’s infamous malcontent goes down in flames!
