Artists, We Want Your Artwork for the 2025 Zozobra Art Show!
Ignite your creative side by portraying your love for the Annual Burning of Zozobra!
Before we know it, Zozobra will make his dramatic return to Santa Fe in 2025! This towering tyrant has a sneaky way of coming back, much like the nagging woes and worries that haunt our lives.
As an artist, this only means one thing: It’s time to start producing more artwork in the image of the Santa Fe icon we love to hate.
As the days draw ever closer to Zozobra’s fiery date with destiny, the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe wants to celebrate with your Zozobra-related artwork. We are actively seeking submissions to fill our exhibition space at Santa Fe Place Mall!! Please read below for the specific submission requirements, official entry rules, and all the important dates to remember.
Subject Matter:
Artwork in the ZozoFest Art Show must be primarily of Zozobra. Other relevant subject matter includes characters from the Zozobra performance, including the Fire Spirit, Gloomies, and Torchbearers. Images inspired by or representing Will Shuster or the Los Cinco Pintores will also be considered. Artwork that includes depictions of the Santa Fe Fiesta is also welcome. ZozoFest is a family-friendly event, and any pieces depicting nudity or controversial political and religious figures messages will not be accepted. This year, we are stoked to celebrate the Zozobra’s 101st birthday, a milestone event!
Media:
All media are accepted, including Acrylic, Oil, Collage, Mixed Media, Pastel, Colored Pencil, Markers, Digital Art, Photography, Watercolor, Sculpture, Encaustic, Resin, Wax, Layered Media, Video, Legos, and Functional Art. As far as media, your only limitation is your imagination! Your ideas for installation-type artwork are welcome and open to consideration.
Photographs submitted for consideration in the art show may be digital or shot on film. Alternative processes, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, photograms, etc. are all acceptable, as long as the images are photographically created.
Work that is not for sale is also welcome to be included in the exhibition!
Entry Process:
Entering art into the ZozoFest Art Show is free! To reserve a spot in our art show, we require every artist to complete a submission via an online form, which includes a description of the work. You will be asked to upload a JPEG image of your work. Image size must be at least 1500 pixels on the longest side but no larger than 3000 pixels. Please name your image file as “YourName_ArtworkTitle.jpg.” You will be informed of your acceptance after Kiwanis Club members have had a chance to review the entries. Remember, any artwork you wish to display in the show must be previously submitted online! You are required to fill out this form for every piece that you submit.
Please double-check that you have provided us with all the required information.
All artwork received through online submission is required to be dropped off by the artist on Saturday, August 9, 2025, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the western end of Santa Fe Place Mall in the space next to Boot Barn. Please refer to the calendar dates below. It is each artist’s responsibility to ensure that artwork is well protected by placing it in a sturdy box or another carrying system. Will Shuster’s Zozobra Art Show 2025 is not responsible for any damage caused to unprotected artwork.
Mark Your Calendar with these important dates!

ZozoFest is organized through voluntary effort and we cannot accommodate additional pick-up times. Volunteers are not able to deliver any artwork or return presentation items back to you. Please plan ahead. There are NO EXCEPTIONS!
Presentation:
All artworks must be framed or have another form of wired hanging device and arrive at the art show location ready to hang. Presentation is very important, so we encourage you to professionally prepare your art for exhibition and sale. Other presentation items include business cards, brochures, and postcards.
Eligibility:
Anyone may enter! There are NO restrictions on age or artist location. Anyone in the world may enter! All we require is that the artwork submitted is original and created by the person who enters the work. Entries previously submitted to the Will Shuster’s Zozobra Art Show are eligible for consideration as long as the digital criteria defined above are met.
Entry Fee:
Unlike submitting to many other art exhibitions, entering artwork for consideration in our art show is FREE and there is no limit to how many art pieces you may submit. Kiwanis will show as many art pieces as can reasonably fit within our gallery space.
Submission Deadline:
Online submissions must be received by Monday, August 4, 2025, 11:59 p.m. MDT (New Mexico time) MDT to reserve a spot in the show. Email submissions should be sent to [email protected] with the requirements outlined above. Artwork must be dropped off in person at Santa Fe Place Mall on Saturday, August 9, 2025, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Final Acceptance:
Final acceptance of entries in the Will Shuster’s Zozobra Art Show exhibition is at the curator’s discretion after viewing the delivered framed prints. If a print does not match the appearance of the JPEG entry, or if the print quality or the framing (presentation device) is not suitable quality for gallery presentation, the curator may ask the artist to replace whichever element is not suitable. We aim for a truly excellent show, so all of the artwork needs to be presented in a top-notch manner. Reminder: All artwork must be ready to hang, or it will not be displayed.
Sales:
Exhibited work will be available for sale (unless the artist designates entries as Not For Sale or NFS). The price for each piece of work is at the artist’s discretion. Will Shuster’s Zozobra Art Show 2025 will retain a commission of 25% on all sales that occur during the exhibit, or which occur later as a direct result of the exhibit. The 25% commission will be used by Kiwanis to offset the cost of ZozoFest and to contribute to our grant fund, which supports the children in the Santa Fe community. The 75% balance will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the closing of the show. When pricing your pieces, please factor in your material cost, your time, and your effort. The 75% you will receive should reflect the amount you feel your piece is worth to you. Do not undercharge for your work!
It is also worth noting that artwork is more likely to sell when the artist is present to talk about his or her work. As an entrant in our art show, please expect to spend several hours on one or both of the days talking about your work as the public explores our gallery.
Tax Requirements:
All artists will be required to fill out a W-9 form (which we will provide) when you drop off your artwork. If you earn $600 or more from ZozoFest, we are required to submit a W-9 form on your behalf, and it will be your responsibility to declare your art show income on your personal tax return. If you earn under $600, no further steps need to be taken.
Insurance:
Will Shuster’s Zozobra Art Show 2025 carries no insurance for loss or damage to artwork in the gallery or in transit, nor assumes any liability for same. However, every precaution will be taken for the safety of the exhibited work. Artists can and should provide their own insurance coverage.
Shipping:
If you are an artist located outside of Santa Fe and must ship your artwork, please contact us at [email protected] to make shipping arrangements. Entries that are accepted for exhibition must be shipped to Santa Fe (or delivered in person) and arrive no later than TBD by 5 p.m. Entries must be securely packaged in a sturdy shipping box, even if the artist delivers his/her work in person. Artwork that has been shipped but has not been sold must be shipped back at the artist’s expense, with shipping details arranged by the artist prior to Sunday, August 24, 2025. The Santa Fe Kiwanis Club will retain all of the original packaging box/materials in which the artist’s work is shipped. If the artwork does not sell, we will re-use the packaging to send the work back to the artist.
