Artists! WILL SHUSTER'S 2020 ZOZOBRA ART SHOW WANTS YOU!
The world may have turned upside down but Zozobra is as hungry for fame as ever! Zozobra gets an ego boost every year from the multitude of artists in the annual Zozobra Art Exhibit and wants all the glory of those gloomy moments in the public eye!
Zozobra will be soon making his dramatic return to Santa Fe in the midst of the unprecedented 2020 pandemic. The old grouch has a sneaky way of infecting our lives with sorrow and fear, much like the nagging anxieties currently haunting our lives.
For artists, this only means one thing: It's time to start producing artwork in the image of the Santa Fe icon we love to hate. This year is gloomier than ever, and as the date draws closer to Zozobra's fiery battle with the Fire Spirit, the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe wants to mark this unprecedented time with your Zozobra-related artwork.
We are actively seeking submissions from artists of all ages to fill our online museum-style exhibit. Please find the specific submission requirements and official entry rules below, along with all the important dates to remember.
Subject Matter: Artwork in the ZozoFest Art Show must be primarily of Zozobra. Other relevant subject matter includes characters from the Zozobra performance, including the Fire Spirit, Gloomies and Torchbearers. ZozoFest is a family-friendly event, and any pieces depicting nudity or controversial political and religious figures messages will not be accepted. This year, we are recognizing the unexpected conjunction of Zozobra and COVID-19, and artwork that privileges this strange meeting of two dark forces is strongly encouraged.
Media: All media are accepted, including Acrylic, Oil, Collage, Mixed Media, Pastel, Colored Pencil, Digital Art, Photography, Water Color, Sculpture, encaustic, resin, wax, layered media, video, Legos, and functional art. As far as media, your only limitation is your imagination, since our online gallery is huge!
Photographs submitted for consideration in the art show may be digital or shot on film. Alternative processes, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, photo-grams, etc. are all acceptable, as long as the images are photographically created.
Entry Process: Entering art into the ZozoFest Art Show is free! To reserve a spot in our art show, we require every artist to complete a submission via an online form, which includes a description of the work. You will be asked to upload a JPEG image of your work. Image size must be at least 1500 pixels on the longest side but no larger than 3000 pixels. Please name your image file as "YourName_ArtworkTitle.jpg." You will be informed of your acceptance after Kiwanis Club members have had a chance to review the entries. Remember, any artwork you wish to display in the show must be previously submitted online! You are required to fill out this form for every piece that you submit.
Please double-check that you have provided us with all the required information.
Eligibility: Anyone may enter! There are NO restrictions on age or artist location. Anyone in the world may enter! All we require is that artwork submitted is original and created by the person who enters the work. Entries previously submitted to the Will Shuster's Zozobra Art Show are eligible for consideration as long as the digital criteria defined above is met.
NO Entry Fee: Unlike submitting to many other art exhibitions, entering artwork for consideration in our art show is FREE and there is no limit to how many art pieces you may submit. Kiwanis members will select what we feel are your strongest pieces, and we will show as many art pieces as can reasonably fit within our online platform.
Submission Deadline: Online submissions must be received by Sunday, August 9, 2020, 11:59 p.m. MDT (New Mexico time) to reserve a spot in the show. Email submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with the requirements outlined above. Final Acceptance of entries in the Will Shuster's Zozobra Art Show exhibition is at the curator's discretion.
Work that is not for sale is definitely welcome to be included in the exhibition!
Sales: Exhibited work will be available for sale unless the artist clearly designates entries as Not For Sale or NFS. If your work is for sale, please make arrangements to deliver the hard-copy original artwork to the office of Solana Self Storage, located 942 Rio Vista St, Santa Fe, NM 87501 from Monday, August 3, 2020, through Friday, August 7, 2020, between the hours of 10 AM and 5 PM, so that if it sells, we can provide it to the purchaser without delay.
We will safely store your work and give it ample time to sell during the weeks when the Art Show is on view online. Artists may retrieve unsold work from Monday, September 7, 2020, through Friday, September 11, 2020, between the hours of 10 AM and 5 PM at the same Solana Self Storage address, 942 Rio Vista St, Santa Fe, NM 87501. Unsold work that is not claimed by Friday, September 11, 2020, will become part of the Kiwanis Club archives.
The price for each piece of work is at the artist's discretion. Will Shuster's Zozobra Art Show 2020 will retain a commission of 25% on all sales that occur during the exhibit, or which occur later as a direct result of the exhibit. The 25% commission will be used by Kiwanis to offset the cost of ZozoFest and to contribute to our grant fund, which supports the children in the Santa Fe community. The 75% balance will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the closing of the show. When pricing your pieces, please factor in your material cost, your time and effort. The 75% you will receive should reflect the amount you feel your piece is worth to you. Do not undercharge for your work!
Tax Requirements: All artists will be required to fill out a W-9 form (which we will provide) when you drop off your artwork. If you earn $600 or more from ZozoFest, we are required to submit a W-9 form on your behalf, and it will be your responsibility to declare your art show income on your personal tax return. If you earn under $600, no further steps need to be taken.
