We're Looking for Artists for WILL SHUSTER'S ZOZOBRA ART SHOW 2017! Is that YOU?

50firespirit

Ignite your creative side by portraying your love for the 93rd Annual Burning of Zozobra!

2017 is flying by, and before we know it Zozobra will make his dramatic return to Santa Fe! Also known as “Old Man Gloom," this towering villain has a sneaky way of coming back, much like the nagging worries that haunt our lives. As an artist, this only means one thing: It's time to start producing more artwork in the image of the Santa Fe icon we love to hate. As the date draws ever-closer to Old Man Gloom's fiery demise, the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe wants to celebrate with your Zozobra-related artwork. We are actively seeking submissions to fill our exhibition space, located adjacent to Old Man Gloom himself, at an exciting new location, Santa Fe Place Mall! Please find the specific submission requirements & official entry rules below, along with all the important dates to remember.

Subject Matter:

Artwork in the ZozoFest Art Show should be primarily of Zozobra. Other relevant subject matter includes characters from the Zozobra performance, including the Fire Spirit, Gloomies and Torchbearers. Images inspired by, or representing Will Shuster or the Los Cincos Pintores will also be  considered. Artwork depicting the Santa Fe Fiesta is welcome, as Zozobra coincides with this event. ZozoFest is a family friendly event, and any pieces depicting nudity or controversial political and religious messages will not be accepted. This year we are celebrating the 1950’s decade as part of our longterm Decades Project, which you can read about here:https://burnzozobra.com/the-decades-project/. Artwork that honors the unique style of the 1950’s is strongly encouraged.

Media:
All media are accepted, including Acrylic, Oil, Collage, Mixed Media, Pastel, Colored Pencil, Digital Art, Photography, Water Color, Sculpture, encaustic, resin, wax, layered media, video, and functional art.  As far as media, your only limitation is your imagination, since our gallery space is huge! Your ideas for installation-type artwork are welcome and open to consideration.

Photographs submitted for consideration in the art show may be digital or shot on film. Alternative processes, mixed media, digital manipulations, montages, photo-grams, etc. are all acceptable, as long as the images are photographically created.

Work that is not for sale is definitely welcome to be included in the exhibition!

Entry Process:

Entering art into the ZozoFest Art Show is free! To reserve a spot in our art show, we require every artist to complete a submission via email, which includes a description of the work and JPEG files of your artwork. Image size must be at least 1500 pixels on the longest side (but no larger than 3000 pixels). You will be informed of your acceptance after Kiwanis Club members have had a chance to review the entries. Again, any artwork you wish to display in the show must be previously submitted online! Emails must include the following information for each piece:

Title of Art:
Artist Name:
Media:
Size:

Email all entries to art@burnzozobra.com

All artwork received through on-line submission is required to be dropped off by the artist at our gallery space within The Marketplace at Santa Fe Place Mall, 4250 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87507. Artwork is expected to be dropped off and displayed in the food court near the children’s carousel.  Please refer to calendar dates below.  It is each artist's responsibility to ensure that artwork is well protected by placing it in a sturdy box or other carrying system.  Will Shuster's Zozobra Art Show 2017 is not responsible for any damage caused to unprotected artwork.

Final Acceptance:
Final acceptance of entries in the Will Shuster's Zozobra Art Show exhibition is at the curator's discretion after viewing the delivered framed prints.  If a print does not match the appearance of the JPEG entry, or if the print quality or the framing (presentation device) are not suitable quality for gallery presentation, the curator may ask the artist to replace whichever element is not suitable.  We aim for a truly excellent show, so all of the artwork needs to be presented in a top-notch manner. Reminder: All artwork must be ready to hang, or it will not be displayed.

Sales:
Exhibited work will be available for sale (unless the artist designates entries as Not For Sale or NFS). The price for each framed print is at the artist's discretion.  Will Shuster's Zozobra Art Show 2017 will retain a commission of 30% on all sales that occur during the exhibit or which occur later as a direct result of the exhibit.  The 30% commission will be used by Kiwanis to offset the cost of ZozoFest and to contribute to our grant fund, which supports the children in the Santa Fe community.  The 70% balance will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the closing of the show.  When pricing your pieces, please factor in your material cost, your time and effort.  The 70%  you receive should reflect the amount you feel your piece is worth to you.  Do not undercharge for your work!

It is also worth noting that artwork is more likely to sell when the artist is present to talk about his or her work.  As an entrant in our art show, please expect to spend several hours on one or both of the days to talk about your work as the public explores our gallery.

Tax Requirements:

All artists will be required to fill out a W-9 form (which we will provide) when you drop off your artwork.  If you earn $600 or more from ZozoFest, we are required to submit a W-9 form on your behalf, and it will be your responsibility to declare your art show income on your personal tax return.  If you earn under $600, no further steps need to be taken.
